There are so many interesting places to visit in the area surrounding Rye. The countryside is amongst the most beautiful in England with picturesque villages nestling in the rolling countryside of Kent and Sussex. The towns of Battle, Bexhill and Hastings are close by with Brighton, Dover, Eastbourne, Folkestone and Tunbridge Wells all within easy reach, where there are numerous theatres, shops, concert halls and cinemas. There are stately homes, castles, gardens and vineyards to visit, the famous Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Miniature Railway and, for steam enthusiasts, the Kent and East Sussex Steam Railway, not to mention Lydd International Airport with its daily flights to Le Touquet and its exciting sightseeing flights over Rye and the coast by Sky-Trek Airlines.
Stately homes, 14th century Penshurst Place, Hever Castle - home of the ill fated Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII’s second wife, Chartwell, home of Sir Winston Churchill for more than 40 years, lovely old castles like Bodiam, Leeds, Herstmonceux, Pevensey and Scotney are all within easy reach. For garden enthusiasts, Sissinghurst is world famous and there are numerous other interesting gardens like Great Dixter, Sheffield Park and Wakehurst Place open to the public and worth a visit.
